Axis cameras
with LookoutNVR.

Supported through ONVIF Profile S, T, G and M, which current Axis cameras list.

Stream addresses

Lookout reads these from the camera itself over ONVIF. Type one in only when ONVIF is off. Put the camera's user name, password and address in place of user, password and camera-address.

Main streamrtsp://user:password@camera-address/axis-media/media.amp
Second streamrtsp://user:password@camera-address/axis-media/media.amp?resolution=640x360
RTSP port554
ONVIFSwitch it on in the camera's settings
DVR and NVR channels/axis-media/media.amp?camera=N for encoder channels and multi-sensor views

There is no fixed second-stream path: pick it with URL parameters (resolution=, videocodec=h264 or h265) or a saved stream profile (?streamprofile=name). ONVIF is switched on by creating an ONVIF user, separate from the camera's own users.

Before you add it

  • RTSP is /axis-media/media.amp. Set the resolution and codec in the address (resolution=, videocodec=h264 or h265) or pick a stream profile.
  • Sign-in uses HTTP digest. Make a user for Lookout rather than sharing the root account.
  • Switch on RTSP or ONVIF in the camera's settings if it ships with them off, and make a user for Lookout.
  • Set the second stream to about 640 pixels wide in H.264. Lookout records the main stream and watches the second one.
  • Give the camera a fixed address and turn on NTP, so its clock is right.

The camera setup guide has the rest.

Where this comes from

Axis: the maker's documentation.

Field-proven means it runs on one of our recorders at a real site today. Supported means it works through ONVIF or RTSP. Brand names belong to their owners.

Something wrong?

Makers, installers and owners: if a model changed or an address is wrong, send a correction and we update this page.
